A class rank calculator converts your position in your class into more meaningful figures: your percentile, the top percentage you fall into, an approximate GPA equivalent, and an overall class standing. You enter the total number of students and either your rank, your GPA, or your percentage score, and it shows where you stand relative to your peers.

Rank is your ordinal position — 1st, 2nd, 15th — where a lower number is better. Percentile is the percentage of classmates you've performed better than, where a higher number is better. Being 15th out of 300 is a rank of 15 and a percentile of about 95. Percentiles are often preferred in admissions because they let colleges compare students fairly across schools of very different sizes.

Unweighted rank treats every course equally, so an A in a standard class counts the same as an A in an AP, IB, or honors class. Weighted rank gives extra points to more rigorous courses, rewarding students who take a harder schedule. Two students with the same grades can rank differently depending on which system a school uses, so check which method your school applies before interpreting your rank.

Many schools have moved away from formal ranking. If yours doesn't rank, focus on your unweighted and weighted GPA, the rigor of your course load, and your percentile if the school reports one.
