Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers to common questions to help you use this calculator confidently.

How do I choose between conservative, moderate, and aggressive portfolios?

Tap to view the answer

Conservative = Lower risk tolerance, nearing retirement. Moderate = Balanced approach for mid-career. Aggressive = Long time horizon, comfortable with volatility. Younger investors (10+ years) can afford more aggressive allocations.

How often should I rebalance my portfolio?

Tap to view the answer

Rebalance annually or when allocations drift >5% from targets. This locks in gains and maintains your desired risk profile.

Should CPF count as part of my portfolio?

Tap to view the answer

CPF behaves like the bond portion of a portfolio: Ordinary Account and Special Account balances earn a floor rate set by the government with no capital risk. Investors who ignore CPF often end up more conservative overall than they intend, because a large guaranteed allocation already sits outside the figures they are looking at.

Does this account for fees and taxes?

Tap to view the answer

No. It shows target weights only. Singapore has no capital gains tax and does not tax most dividends locally, but fund fees and foreign withholding tax — notably 30% on US-domiciled dividends — reduce real returns and are not modelled.

Is a home-market bias a problem?

Tap to view the answer

Singapore is a small share of global market capitalisation and its index is concentrated in banks and property. A portfolio weighted heavily to local shares carries more single-sector risk than the headline allocation suggests, which is why global diversification is usually recommended.
