Clear answers to common questions to help you use this calculator confidently.

What is deducted from a Dutch gross salary?

Tap to view the answer

Dutch gross salary has wage tax (loonheffing) and national insurance premiums withheld. Holiday allowance (vakantiegeld, ~8%) is typically paid annually on top. Employees with the 30% ruling receive part of their pay tax-free. The net salary calculator itemises the deductions for your situation.

Which Dutch allowances (toeslagen) might I be entitled to?

Tap to view the answer

The main income-tested allowances are healthcare allowance (zorgtoeslag), rent/housing allowance (huurtoeslag), childcare allowance (kinderopvangtoeslag) and the child budget (kindgebonden budget). Entitlement depends on your income, household and, for housing, your rent. Use the housing and healthcare allowance calculators to estimate yours.

How is a DUO student loan repaid?

Tap to view the answer

DUO student loans are repaid as an income-contingent amount over a long term, with a phase during which repayment can be paused or reduced if income is low. The DUO repayment calculator estimates your monthly payment based on the outstanding balance and terms.
