How is annual salary calculated from an hourly wage?

Annual salary = hourly rate × hours per week × effective weeks per year (weeks per year minus any unpaid weeks off). For example, $25/hour at 40 hours/week for a full 52 weeks equals $52,000/year; the same rate with 2 unpaid weeks off drops to about $50,000/year (50 effective weeks).

Enter the number of unpaid weeks off in a year and the calculator subtracts them from your total weeks before computing annual, monthly, weekly, and biweekly pay — so time off without pay is reflected as lower annual earnings, not ignored.

Does this include overtime pay?
Tap to view the answer
Yes, if you enter overtime hours per week and an overtime multiplier (1.5x by default). Overtime pay is calculated as overtime hours × hourly rate × multiplier, applied across your effective work weeks, and added to your regular annual pay in the total.

Are taxes and deductions included in the results?

No — this calculator shows gross pay only (before federal, state, Social Security, and Medicare withholding). Use a paycheck or take-home pay calculator to estimate net income after taxes and deductions.
Why is my biweekly pay not exactly double my weekly pay?

Why is my biweekly pay not exactly double my weekly pay?
Tap to view the answer
Biweekly pay is annual salary ÷ 26, while weekly pay is annual salary ÷ effective weeks worked (which can be less than 52 if you entered unpaid weeks off). When effective weeks are below 52, weekly pay is calculated over fewer weeks than the 26-pay-period biweekly figure, so the two won't align exactly.

How this hourly to salary calculator works
This calculator converts between hourly wages and annual, monthly, bi-weekly and weekly salary equivalents using standard US work schedule assumptions. It also estimates take-home pay after federal income tax using simplified 2026 bracket rates.
- Annual salary = hourly rate × hours per week × weeks per year (default 52, adjustable for weeks off).
- Monthly = annual ÷ 12; bi-weekly = annual ÷ 26; weekly = annual ÷ 52.
- Overtime hours above 40/week are calculated at 1.5× the base rate before annualising.
- A simplified federal income tax estimate is applied to show approximate take-home pay.
State income taxes, FICA, benefits deductions and pre-tax contributions are not fully modelled. Use your employer's payroll system for exact net pay.
